Be Your Best

My Bucket List

Happy New Year to you!  The Holidays were great, and provided a much needed rest —- oh wait, I don’t remember resting that much.  Seems like the Holidays can be more stressful than work sometimes!  Our family went out to Colorado after Christmas day, to spend some time with my wife’s family.  Lauren (our 10 year old) and Megan (our 7 year old) got to play with some of their cousins a lot.  One cousin Jackson (‘Jake’), who is 2, really reminded me that it is important to live in the moment.  He does not care what happened 10 minutes ago or 3 days ago, nor does he worry about the future.  I thought this was important advice for us grown-up’s.  He got me thinking about my ‘bucket’ list (the list of things I want to do before I ‘kick the bucket’).  It’s been a while since I scratched anything off that list, and I need to get back on it.  Do you have a ‘bucket’ list?  It’s an interesting and fun exercise that really gets you focused on living life.  You would be surprised at some of the things I have on my Bucket list —- a bunch of them are pretty basic and ordinary — just want to make sure I do them and I have not yet.  The New Year is a good time to work on that list.  What am I reading?  I read a lot and I generally have multiple books going, some audio books and several hard copies.  I just finished a great book “The Secret life of Houdini”, about Harry Houdini, the famous magician.  The book is not so much about the magic he performed as much as it tells how unbelievable of a hard worker he was.  Very interesting book and a lot of good business and life lessons in it.  Another great book I just finished, but am reading again is “Flow, the Psychology of Optimal Experience”.  Excellent book for finding ‘the zone’ for you or a team you work with.  I am also reading “The Lean Six Sigma Toolbook”.  A good short book on Lean Six Sigma concepts.

I wish you and your family and friends a very Happy New Year.  It will be a great one.
